Painting the Bay from the beach of LAS ANIMAS one afternoon, I was so relaxed and soothed by the tranquility of it all. It seemed to me that the painting was born by some invisible hand...and I played a minor role as it unfolded.
Later, sipping a beer under the PALAPAS in old town, I swore the cherry reds, taxicab yellow and turquoise chairs were competing for my attention, each trying to out-shout the other.
Slowly Alpha and I climbed the dusty lanes to the hotel perched over lover's Vallarte, and watched the Mexican sun slip under the SIERRA MADRE. When I got back to my studio in the states, I found the birds had taken roost in every painting, looking for all the world like social commentators laughing aloud at the antics of our kind.
Now in this ever altered America, I feel a strong urge to flee. And I know I will do anything to return.
